Street Beat empowers local youth to take centre stage

Comments Off on Street Beat empowers local youth to take centre stage

Young people in North Lincolnshire are being given the chance to move, express themselves, and build confidence through Street Beat – a dynamic street dance programme made possible by a £5,000 grant from North Lincolnshire Council’s Positive Activities scheme.

Running weekly for 31 weeks across three community venues, the sessions are designed to do more than just teach dance. They offer a safe, inclusive space where young people can:

  • Build self-esteem and confidence
  • Stay active and healthy
  • Develop creativity and teamwork
  • Connect with others in their community
  • Work with experienced dance professionals
  • Perform on stage and showcase their talent.

With 30 places available, the programme is open to young people of all abilities who want to try something new, make friends, and be part of something exciting.

The session details are as follows:

  • Monday, 5pm to 5.45pm at Live Well Isle of Axholme, Burnham Road, Epworth DN9 1BZ.
  • Thursday, 4.45pm to 6.15pm at Westcliff Community Centre, 7 Newbolt Avenue, DN17 1PE.
  • Thursday, 6.30pm to 7.15pm at CrosbyOne Centre, Digby Street, DN15 7LU.

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and communities, said: “Street Beat is a fantastic example of how we can empower our young people through creativity and community.

“These kinds of projects are the heartbeat of our local areas – helping young people live their best lives and build a brighter future.

“The scheme supports projects that give young people creative, meaningful ways to spend their time and Street Beat is a shining example of that mission in action.”

Smart bus displays rolled out in Barrow – giving passengers real-time info and a smoother journey

Comments Off on Smart bus displays rolled out in Barrow – giving passengers real-time info and a smoother journey

Passengers in Barrow-upon-Humber are now benefiting from new digital bus displays providing real-time service updates, clearer travel information and improved accessibility.

The screens show live bus arrival times, updates on any delays or diversions, and full timetables – making it easier for residents to plan journeys, stay connected and feel confident using public transport.

Each display also includes text-to-speech audio, supporting people with visual impairments and anyone who prefers spoken information.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, visited the new display in Barrow alongside ward members and bus users.

He said: “Passengers in Barrow can now get clear, up-to-the-minute information the moment they reach the stop. These smart displays make travelling by bus simpler, more reliable and more accessible for everyone.

“We’re focused on improving the passenger experience and strengthening public transport across all our communities. This technology is a practical step that will help people stay connected – whether getting to work, school, appointments or to see family and friends.”

The Barrow installation forms part of a wider programme that will see 49 digital displays fitted across towns and villages in North Lincolnshire over the coming months, funded through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

Digital displays are being installed across Scunthorpe, Brigg, Barton-upon-Humber, Epworth, Broughton, Haxey and other locations as part of the first phase of the upgrade.
